LONGWOOD SMALL ANIMAL IMAGING FACILITY TECHNICIAN
(RESEARCH ASSISTANT II)

RESPONSIBILITIES: The Longwood SAIF provides full-service small animal imaging to the Harvard Medical School research community. The applicant will perform daily small animal imaging experiments using non-radioactive and radioactive methods. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • One-on-one interaction with BIDMC researchers to design optimal experiments
  • Ensure accurate web-based scheduling and billing of services
  • Coordination of experiments on multiple imaging platforms
  • Adherence to all local, state, and federal guidelines concerning the use of animals and radioactivity in research
  • Small animal anesthesia
  • microCT imaging of small animals
  • Maestro multi-spectral fluorescence imaging of small animals
  • Xenogen IVUS-50 bioluminescence imaging of small animals
  • nanoSPECT/CT radioscintigraphic imaging of small animals
  • microPET radioscintigraphic imaging of small animals
  • Co-registration of data sets across all platforms
  • Distribution of results to researchers in the desired data format
  • Reading of equipment manuals and comprehensive understanding of techniques
  • Work closely with Longwood SAIF administrator and communications professional to maintain content of website
  • Data acquisition, analysis, and storage on Windows, Mac OSX, and Linux platforms
  • Permanent data archiving of all user data, and supply of data to user in their desired format

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must have a B.S. and at least 2 years experience with small animal handling and techniques. Familiarity with bioluminescence, fluorescence, CT, SPECT and/or PET highly desirable. The applicant must be willing to work daily with animals and with high-energy (511 keV) radioactive compounds.

REPORTING STRUCTURE: The applicant will report to Drs. Robert E. Lenkinski and John V. Frangioni, co-directors of the Small Animal Imaging Core of the BIDMC for technical matters and the to the Longwood SAIF administrator for administrative/billing matters.

MEDICAL EDITOR

The Frangioni laboratory is seeking a Medical Editor to assist with all aspects of grant preparation, manuscript preparation, communications, and website content. Duties include, but are not limited to finding potential grants and preparing applications; acting as a liaison between the laboratory and external organizations; writing initial drafts of pre-clinical and clinical trials; writing communications among regulatory bodies; assisting in manuscript preparation including substantive editing, copyediting, proofreading galleys; and, electronic submission of manuscripts.

Candidate must:
1) be capable of working independently,
2) be highly organized,
3) have excellent verbal and written communication skills,
4) be comfortable working in a deadline-driven intense environment, and
5) have experience working on a team.

Minimum requirements include a B.A. in English, Journalism, or Communications (Master’s preferred); three years prior experience in the communications field including writing, budgeting, proofreading, and/or website content; and advanced skills in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Will train in preparation of NIH forms PHS398 and SF424, although working familiarity with these documents is preferred.

POST-DOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP IN IN VIVO NEAR--INFRARED IMAGING

The Frangioni Laboratory at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center of Harvard Medical School is seeking a post-doctoral fellow experienced in biomedical optics. Projects include the use of spatially-modulated near-infrared light to measure tissue optical properties in vivo, and the design and construction of minimally-invasive fiberoptic imaging systems. Candidate will be trained in the clinical translation of new imaging devices and contrast agents.

Candidate must have a Ph.D. from a respected laboratory in biomedical optics and first author papers in the field. Candidate should be self-motivated and capable of working independently, but must also be capable of working in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary team environment.
